Potty Patch

This week has been about the accidents that occurred during our bathroom renovation. One accident seems to happen all the time – not just when there is construction going on.

Check out our Norwich Terrier waiting by the door. (You’ll also notice the Poochie Bells in the background. Those are for her to ring when she needs to go out. Never once happened, although I’m sure it amused her watching us attempt to train her.)

Bobbie knows she is supposed to go outside to pee. But she drinks too much (I know, where did she learn that?) and we’re not always waiting at the door for her (isn’t it supposed to be the other way around with dogs?). We’ve also tried a doggie door – that is until the neighbors complained of our dogs barking all day in the back yard.

And to top it off, she doesn’t pee on tile or wood floors. She goes directly for the nearest rug or bath mat. (More "grass-like" I suppose?)

So, it’s like my prayers were answered when I saw the infomercial for the Potty Patch. Fake grass on a collection tray which holds up to a gallon of liquid. You’re right. I better get two. She does drink a lot. And that should complete the bathroom renovation, huh?

Haute Diggity Dog

Is it wrong for me to like my dog’s plush toys more than they do?

The dogs might kinda chew on it for a few minutes, but since they can’t read, they don’t really understand how great this one is.

Dog toys in the shape of vodka bottles. Arfsolut Vodka. I wonder if they have little plush limes to go with the vodka?

I'll drink to that.

Annie's Sweatshop

Every member of the family should be involved in recycling, even the pooch. At least that’s what Ann Marie Matott believes. Along with her two mini-dachshunds, Porter and Stout, she’s created a line of pet products using eco friendly materials.

Check out her website to find collars and leashes made from 100% silk ties sewn onto renewable and strong cotton webbing.

And, they will recycle your old leash parts and give you a $5 Rebate.

Even if you don’t have a dog, you need to check out the dachshunds in their Hound Hoodies with a little pom-pom on top of the hood. It will make you smile. (And, wonder how much they had to medicate the dogs in order to get them to stay still for all those photos.)

Delta Omega Gamma

The members of Delta Tau Chi (the fraternity from Animal House) had better look out. There’s a new Greek organization of party animals in town – Delta Omega Gamma. (Also known as DOG. OK, now you got it, huh?)

You’ll recognize members of this not-so-illustrious club by their matching hoodies, collars and leashes which proudly bear their name. Watch for the secret handshake when they meet. I think it involves sniffing.

Your pooch feeling left out? Your canine can pledge at Five Star Fido. And you don’t even have to pay school tuition (thank goodness for that).

Poochie Bells

There's someone in my house who has a serious drinking problem. (No, it's not me.)

My dog loves her water bowl. Every time she walks into the kitchen, happy hour starts all over again. She'll tank up several times a day.

I've got no issues with that. The problem is the inevitable puddle that appears later.

So, I've ordered her very own doggie door bell. The postman may ring twice, but I'm hoping the pooch will just ring at least once when she needs to go.

Willow Creek Press

Willow Creek Press is a publisher that has created a humorous line of dog picture books, such as Pug Mugs - Good Pugs Gone Bad.

The dogs featured in Pug Mugs have all been charged with a variety of crimes. Each page turner includes photos of the perps and descriptions of their crime, such as soliciting, petty theft, bribery, attempted homicide (calm down, it's just a photo of pug with a plush toy).

The books and photos capture the bad dog spirit. Go to their web site to look for books and calendars of other breeds.

Luckily, I didn't see pictures of my dogs in there. I can't afford the bail.

BiteMe Spears

Who's your pet's favorite celebrity? Forget a star on the sidewalk or handprints in cement. Hollywood actors know the true measure of success when they've been remade into a dog toy. Yeah, that's ruff (get it?).

There's Brad Pittbull, Angelina Grrrowlie, Clint Eastwoof, Sara Jessica Barker and Bruce Woofless.

Although the next time my little dog "Oops, I did it again", I'm taking away her BiteMe Spears. You know, she's got a drinking problem. The dog I mean, not the celebrity. Although . . .

Spoiled Chiens

My dogs, spoiled? You better believe it.

Look at these dog beds. The bone shape frame holds a soft cushion insert which come in blue or pink. They aren't cheap, but they sure are very cute.

Next thing you know, dog beds will be made of memory foam or adjustable with a remote control.

But if it avoids the 5:00 AM breakfast call from the dogs and gives me a chance to sleep in, they would be totally worth it.

Pit Bulls Against Palin

We're in Maine and walked by a store window with a bumper sticker that read "Pit Bulls Against Palin".

I had no idea that pit bulls were politically active, much less backing Barack Obama. It makes sense though after her hockey mom joke.

Go to the web site to buy a t-shirt and read more. The site claims that Sarah Palin knows as much about pit bulls as foreign policy.

One more Halloween post for the dogs

I'm not sure when Halloween started becoming such a big event - the lavish parties, the over-the-top costumes, the designer decorations and props. Yep, I'm hooked. The problem is - what do I do with my smoke machine for the rest of the 364 days of the year?

There's a fun little store on Etsy that blends humor with their love of dog toys.

Candy corn for dogs! These are great treats for dogs.

Also, look at the Pirate Squirrel. I know two little dogs that would love one of those.

Let's not forget the other kids

When you're stocking up for Halloween, don't just buy candy for the little ones. You never know what other types of kids might stop by for a treat.

Dogma & Fetch is a dog boutique that has these great Halloween toys for the pups. The site has a lot of great products just for dogs - from cool ID tags to designer dog houses.

You'd better be ready this Halloween with the treats of all kinds or my kids will be sure to leave a "trick" on your lawn.

Chairman Meow

My two terriers don’t believe in live and let live. They want to rid the world of all cats.

What my dogs don’t realize is that cats are uniting under Chairman Meow. Much like Mao, Chmn. Meow is leading a revolution - a feline revolution. Go to this web site for some hilarious propoganda and learn more about their ideology.

Buy a t-shirt and give it to your favorite cat person. No matter how much you think they should own a dog.

Traveling Dog

Going on vacation with man's best friend? Pack some plastic bags (you know why) and bring along his favorite kibble in this container.

The Charlybox is made of two sides - one side is a canteen and one side is a set of bowls for Fido's food and water. When he's finished, the two sides snap back together again.

Everybody's happy. Except for you, left holding the plastic bags after dinner.

Great Snacks for Dogs

So far, it's all been about what's Snackworthy for you and me. But here's a little something for man's best friend.

Three Dog Bakery serves up the best treats for the pooches. Our dogs go crazy for the peanut butter bits. Peanut butter - they sure have good taste.

Their website has everything - gift boxes, bone of the month club, super-sized containers of treats. Sadly, even something for cats.
